Apple has released the second beta of iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5. The new beta package is available for download for non-developer users. So what’s new in iOS 17.5 beta 2?
Bugs solved with iOS 17.5 beta 2
The public betas of iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 focus mainly on changes required by the European Union. One of the most important changes is that users in the EU can now download iPhone apps from websites. Users in other regions will continue to rely on the App Store.
However, Apple has also introduced some restrictions for EU developers. Accordingly, developers who submit apps through the website must have been a member of the Apple Developer Program for at least two years. They must also have an app with more than 1 million installs in the EU.
Apps must also go through Apple’s approval process and share its data collection policies. With these restrictions, Apple aims to prevent every developer from releasing apps.
In addition, the new betas include a number of improvements to device management features. It also includes Battery Health support for some iPad models. Although details were not shared, many of the changes seem to address hardware issues.
Test users enrolled in the beta program can install iOS 17.5 or iPadOS 17.5 by going to Settings > Software Update > Beta Updates. Depending on user feedback, the stable version of iOS 17.5 will be released.
